 HAZRAT IBRAHIM (AS)

Long, long ago, Ibrahim (AS), the friend of Allah, had a dream. In his dream, he saw himself offering his son Ismail to Allah, only to please Allah. So you see, when a Prophet has a dream, it means that Allah wants the Prophet to do what he saw in the dream. Ibrahim (AS) knew that Allah wanted him to give Ismail to Him.

Ibrahim (AS) became very sad because he had always loved Ismail very much. But inspite of his love, Ibrahim (AS) was always ready to carry out the commands of Allah. Ismail was born when Ibrahim (AS) was an old, old man and he was his only son. Ismail was only seven years old and all the people of Makkah loved him. But did you also know that a Prophet is never disobedient to Allah? So Ibrahim (AS) called Ismail and told him: “Oh my son, I have seen a dream that I am making Qurbani of you, so tell me, what do you think about it?”

Ismail said: “Oh my dear father, do what Allah wants you to do, and if Allah wants, you will find me patient.”

The next day, Ibrahim and Ismail took a walk to the place of Qurbani.

Shaytaan does not like us to obey Allah and always tries to stop us from being good and strong muslims. So Shaytaan planned to stop Ibrahim (AS) from making Qurbani for the pleasure of Allah. But everytime he tried to do so, Ibrahim (AS) hit him with stones. That is why we throw pebbles at the walls at the three places in Mina where Shaytaan tried to stop Ibrahim (AS).

Shall we find out how Ibrahim (AS) offered his son to Almighty Allah?

Ibrahim (AS) sharpened the big knife, and placed Ismail with his forehead facing down. He did not want to see his son die. Can you imagine his shock when he tried to do the Qurbani, and the knife would not cut ! And before he could even say “Allah”, a ram ( male sheep ) took the place of his dear son, Ismail. Then he heard a voice say : “ Oh Ibrahim, you have made your dream come true and this is your gift from us . . .”

This is how the Prophet Ibrahim (AS) became known as Khaleelullah ( The friend of Allah ).

Every year, muslims from all over the world make Qurbani, following the sacrifice of the prophet Ibrahim (AS). Some people make Qurbani of sheep or goats, but some people even slaughter cows or camels !

Can you think of something that you would like to make Qurbani of? Something  that  you  love dearly? Remember, Allah loves it when we make Qurbani of things we love.

 THE CRYING CAMEL

Once the Prophet (SAW) was passing by a garden in which he saw a camel. This camel began moaning – Poor thing ! When it saw the Prophet (SAW), tears began to flow from its eyes. The Prophet (SAW) went to the camel and rubbed his hand behind its ear. Thereafter, the camel calmed down. The Prophet (SAW) asked about the camel’s owner.

One of the Ansaar came forward to claim the camel. The Prophet (SAW) asked him : “Are you   not afraid of Allah who has made you this camel’s master ? The camel is complaining that you keep him hungry and make him work hard

 THE THIRSTY DOG

A man was once passing through a jungle. He began to feel very thirsty, so he went down a well to quench his thirst, by drinking some water. When he came out, he saw a very thirsty dog panting and licking the mud. The man felt very sorry for the dog, but had nothing with which to draw water from the well. He decided that the only way to help the dog, would be to use his leather socks and go down the well to fetch water.

This is exactly what he did.

As he came up, he held the socks filled with water in his mouth. He then gave the water to the dog to drink.

What a happy ending to this of a brave man, isn’t it ? But that’s not all – Allah was pleased with this man’s deed and forgave him.

 AZIZAH'S ANGER

The yellow school bus came to a halt and Azizah stepped down, running as fast as her little legs could carry her.
But she didn’t run towards her house. No, as soon as the bus was out of sight, she turned and walked in the opposite
direction – towards the nearby woods. She didn’t care if mummy worried about her. In fact, she was very, very upset
with mummy. Why hadn’t her mummy given her enough spending money ?! She couldn’t buy all the sweets and chocolates
that she had wanted to – she had to make do with just a small packet of gums.

Now, what you must understand, is that Azizah was a very ungrateful girl. She complained about everything, not thinking
for a moment about how hard her mummy and daddy had to work, to give her all the nice, expensive things she always wanted.
She walked on, muttering to herself and angrily kicking pebbles that came into her way. Just then, she saw a pretty
yellow butterfly fluttering about. Azizah began to run – stumbling and mumbling, shouting and tripping, she galloped a
long like a little pony, trying, so hard, to catch the beautiful butterfly.

What Azizah didn’t know was that she had wondered off very far into the woods. She looked around her and saw little
squirrels looking at her. As she continued walking, the forest seemed to cave in and become darker and darker. Until she
saw a little cottage ahead of her.

Azizah forgot all about the butterfly she had been chasing and went towards the door of the cottage. She banged on the
door and when no-one answered, she rushed in, looking around, opening doors and cupboards, making herself very comfortable,
indeed. She walked into the kitchen and spotted a box of chocolates. She opened the box and fingered her favourite one.
She quickly gobbled it up – not one, not two . . . but all ten of them !
Now Azizah, the greedy thief, felt stuffed like a turkey. Patting her tummy, she got up and walked into one of the other
rooms. Nothing interested her there, so she walked into the garden.

Outside, the clouds started gathering and the big blue sky turned a nasty grey colour. Suddenly the sky let out a grumble
and it began to pour !  Azizah ran back inside and went upstairs. Soaking wet and exhausted, she went upstairs and fell
asleep on a soft bed . . . It wasn’t long before the owner of the house arrived, surprised to see the front door ajar and
his kitchen ransacked. “Oh no ! I hope nobody has broken in. Uh oh – my chocolates ! I hope nobody’s eaten them.
They’re not fit for eating. They’re old and stale, fit for the trash !”

He walked upstairs really not expecting to find a little girl, curled up like a ball, fast asleep on his bed.
Azizah felt someone shaking her and with a scowl on her face, she opened her eyes and braced herself to throw a tantrum.
Imagine her surprise when she saw a strange face peering down at her ! She quickly sat up, a scared and confused look on her face.

She remembered how she had been very upset with her mother, walked off into the forest and into the house without permission !
“What shall I do ?” she thought miserably. “There’s no escape now ! Should I lie ? Should I scream …..?” The little voice
in her head trailed off. She looked up at the gentle man with her tear-stained face, helpless.
“Did you eat the chocolates I left in the kitchen to throw away ?” asked the man, ever so kindly.
“No, it wasn’t me . . . oh ! My tummy hurts !”

He looked at her and smiled encouragingly. Then he said, “the Prophet [S.A.W] said : ‘Speak the truth even if it be bitter’.”
“Why don’t we start off from the beginning ?” the gentle man advised.
And so it was that Azizah went on to tell the gentle voice the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
Little Azizah promised that from that day on, she would always respect her parents, be kind, speak the truth, and always ask
before taking something or entering someone’s house.
